War Department, Quartermaster General's Office.

Washington D.C  Nov, 18th 1882

Lieut, Col. R.I. Dodge 23d. Infantry, Fort Sully, D.T

Colonel;

Referring to your letter of the 16th Oct. in regard to the purchase of 150 copies of your book "Our Wild Indians" for distribution to Army Posts, forwarded with favorable endorsement and in connection with your interview with the Quartermaster General on the same subject, you are respectfully informed that the Secretary of War has decided that he "does not feel justified in authorizing the purchase of this book for distribution to the Army." This action appears to have been taken after correspondence with A.D Worthington & Co
