but a great many of them are trash, and many more are from boys. I have started about 1000 Agents! Such an army ought to accomplish much, but as yet it has not. Agents go into ecstacies over the Carevansering book and prophesy great things - but that is the last I hear from many of them. The reports that do come in are small generally - occasionally a good one. I do not know why my agents do not accomplish more, unless it is that there has been so many cheap miserable blood & thunder Indian books sold that the public have got tired of the whole business. Those who do buy are perfectly satisfied with the book. No one finds any fault with it. The thousand agents I have started ought to have sold 25 000 by this time instead of only a little over half that number. I think I shall eventually scratch up to 20 000 - shall try mighty hard for it anyway. I shall make nothing on the book because I put so much money into it. Few publishers would have brought it out in the style I have. If I get up to 20,000 I shall about get my money back counting nothing for my time &c &c in handling it 20, 000 could never be sold through the trade. I hope you will work off many copies at your post through the sutler. Let me hear how they go.

Yours very truly C. S. Worthington
