FRIDAY, OCTOBER 21, 1864. Look a ride with Capt. Mesnard along the Picket line. I think the finest of view of woods is on this line, where the large trees are literally clothed with grey moss, which hangs drooping down.

SATURDAY 22 There was an alarm last night. Some boats came over to the upper post and were fired on by the pickets when they retreated. My co was under arms in 2 minutes.

SUNDAY 23 A very quiet sabbath.
