"2" road on account of the strike and that they intended to make this a test case and also to win it. And thus diminish the liability of strikes on all roads in the future. All of the switchmen seemed to entertain a very bitter feeling toward the new engineers and vented their spite in making evil wishes and calling them "scabs" and other hard names. but I heard no threats against [bious] or property. One switchman claimed that the occupation always dangerous, was rendered more so from the fact that the new engineers were not competent men and did not understand their business thoroughly and declared that unless a certain one was changed soon, he would quit work. Everything was quiet and orderly around the yards. I remained in that vicinity till 6 p.m. and then returned to the Agency."

  Yours respectfully,
  Pinkerton Natl. Detective Agency.
