FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1863. Attended the execution of Chas? Williams Co D 4th Md Vols. He deserted about a year ago and came out as a substitute? 7 or 8 times. The Div. was formed? on 3 sides of a squar: a detail of the [[Md}} Brigade shot him. SATURDAY 26 It is astonishing how many of the soldiers are confirmed gamblers. Lt. Dalgleish had some arrested & sent to their Col., but I dont think he punished them. SUNDAY 27 While eating dinner received marching orders, moved 2 miles and are now within shelling distance of the Rebs. although the pickets fire there is no cannon fired. The pickets were very busy firing this morning.
