Depositing the stakes with the barkeeper, he went out, deliberately sat down on the ground within fifteen paces of the crowd, rested his revolver on his knee & hand, & opened fire. Before he had discharged his fourth shot, he was completely riddled with bullets. and while he was carried off to be buried, his antagonist in the bet invited the crowd in to drink the dead man's health, out of the stakes the barkeeper handed over to him. (it having been shown that the shooter had killed only two men)- One night a huge seven-foot "Pike County" ruffian, arrived with a note. Pike is a county in the state of Missouri noted for the huge stature & rough demeanor of its inhabitants--
