50 to 500 feet & numberless such places occur in the road. My pups have been a constant trouble. - today I determined to let them run & tire themselves out - They ran but did not tire worth a cent - Just before arriving at Barnums they flushed three black or dusky grouse - I went after the birds got two & missed the third by a most shameful shot - Came about 2 miles on the Lake City Road from Barnum & went into camp - Socato Camp - then went fishing & had one of the worst days luck I ever had - Everything went wrong - The fish would not bite, but came up & looked at the flies & returned in disgust. By dint of extra [?skils?] I finally got bites, but continually lost my fish - sometimes they would go off with the hook
