our bad rains first began we had 98 miles to go through the woods and a new road some part of the way our road was not cut and we had to find our way as well as we could through the present night approached we found we could not get to a house with both teams one was left in the woods and all the horses. Saturday 30th reached Urbana it is a handsome place the old court house ? the ? corner of the public ? the appearance of the place it does not much credit to the taste of the villages August 1st crossed the Big Miami at Troy. Wednesday 3d passed through Eaton and crossed the state line into Indiana , Ohio on the 4th crossed the White Water passed through Connersville on the following day though Rushville here we entered the Black Swamp we thought worse roads could not than we had travelled but we knew nothing about bad roads mud holes up to the waggon ?
