friends of his who are active, an evidence of his sympathy and encourage [them]. Whatever danger there is of the election of an objectionable Senator from our State arises from the fact that so many of the Federal Officials do not treat him fairly.

I am obliged to go home to-morrow. I need not say more. If you have time and opportunity to speak with the President in regard to my application I shall be personally obliged, and I am very sure, that very many of the [best] friends he has in Wisconsin will be gratified if what you say should result in my official recognition.
