gratulate ourselves on our good fortune in finding so excellent a road - & in so short a distance -- Root, Jeremys Hd miner told me yesterday that we could not get over to Rapid under 25 miles. I am on rapid in less than half the distance & with no trouble 

  We have gone down considerably in altitude & must now be at least a thousand feet below camp
