gratulate ourselves on our good fortune in finding so excellent a wood - & in so short a distance -- Root, Jeremys Hd unclear told me yesterday that we could not get over to Rapid under 25 miles. I am on rapid in less than half the distance & with no trouble 

  We have gone down considerably in a altitude & must now be at least thousand feet below camp
