By way of Discourse the speaker said that the six nation warriors
often met English men trading to the Catabaws and often found that
the English betrayed them to their enemy and some of the English
traders had been spoke to by the Said Speaker last year in the
Cheerkees Country and told not to Do so - that the Speaker and many
others of the 6 Nations had been afaired along time that Such
a thing by some of their warriors at one time or another would be done.
27 the same day had a Counsel with the Sinikers & the Onontagers about the wantats
to Receive them into our Union. I gave a large belt of Wampum and
the Indians Gave two.and Every thing we agreed upon what Should
be said to the wantats. the same Evening a full Counsel was appointed
and met accordingly a speech was made to the Wantats as follows by
Afserharhu a Siniker. Brethern. the Ionontaty Hages last spring
you sent this belt of Wampum to us (having the belt then in his
hands) to Desire us & our Brethern the Shawanos and our Cousins,
the Delawares, to Come an meet you in your retreat from the
french. and we accordingly Came to your assistance and brought
you here, and we Received you as our own flesh. we Desire you will
think you now joined us and our brethern the English and you become one people with us.
then he layd that belt by and gave them
a very large String of Wampum. the Speaker took up the belt and
Said. Brethern. the English our brethern bid you
welcome and are Glad you escaped out of Captivity you have
been Kept as Slaves by Ohontio notwithstanding he Called you all
along his Children but now you have brooke the rope wherewith you
have been tied,& become freemen. and we the United 6 Nations
Receives you to our Counsel fire and make you members thereof
and we will secure your Dwelling place to you against all manner
of Danger. Gave the Belt
Brethern, we the united Nations & all our Indian allies with our
Brethern the english look upon you as our Children though you are our
Brethern. we desire that you will give no Ear to the Evil spirit that spreads
lies and Wickedness. let your minds be Easy and Clear, & be of the Same
mind with us Whatever you may hear. nothing shall befall you but
what of Nececity must befall us in the same time. Gave the Belt.
Brethern. we the Six united Nation and all our Indian Allies with
our Brethern the English are Extreamely Glad to See you here
as it happened Just at the same time when our brother onas
