SUNDAY, JANUARY 31. 1864. Spent a very quiet Sabbath. Saw a dozen deserters come in from the front. A great many come in every day. Wm Bond of our Co died today in hospital at Washington D.C.

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1 Went down town & made Capt Glenn promise to give me a recommendation next day. Sent a note to Lt. Slagle asking him for one.

TUESDAY 2 Received Lt Slagle's recommendation & got one from Capt Glenn. Made out my application and put it in the mail to be sent tomorrow.
