To all the dear folks

                          The first week of school is past - rather a trying week. I begin to feel at home a little in school. Every thing is more favorable than I expected. My journey as far as Buffalo I gave a particular account of to Eliab: the stage ride here was somewhat tedious - a great deal of snow had fallen without any previous frost in the ground and warm weather coming in had broken up so that the travelling was very bad, - the road is a great thorough fare leading to all the cities on the south side of the lake, four loaded stages came with passengers , starting out from Buffalo on runners, but in a few  miles taking to coaches - the horses walked almost every step of the way and we rode steady from nine o clock Wednes. morn till 5 1/2 next morn at  which time we reached Westfield. I was weary enough but happily there was a vacation of a week in the school because I was a week late, and I had from Thurs. till the next Mond. to rest. I cam right to Mr. Rumsey's told them to tell nobody I had come the first day so that I could rest. - the next day I received a call from the Principal Mr. Pilsbury and some of the Trustees Mr. Patterson, Lieut. Gov. of N.Y. last year, being one of them: he resides here has a daughter in school. Mr. Pilsbury made it easy for me taking all
