The family consists of two daughters one 15, the other 8 years old, the house is a pretty cottage, carpeted all over, room enough, some trees around it, a garden, and from the front of the house is seen the broad expanse of the lake with vessels constantly passing and repassing. I have a comfortable little chamber to myself, the use of two drawers in a bureau, and a large closet: the house is neat, the table plain but good: an elderly woman takes the work, and there is a young friend from Ohio spending the winter, half visit, half help: all sit at the same table and apparently a pleasant family:- this is my second day here, and I have told you all I know myself of my situation and prospects.

  I received your letter most gladly but not till the day before I left Hartford, one from Mother and one from Isaac that same day.
  I had the pleasure too of reading a letter from Isaac to the Com. very well written, quite judicious and timely-written on my behalf to secure me a good place. etc. it was very kind in him.
