Monday July 5 1875 Capt Mawley got off with the scientists at about 9 am. For his mil his 20 men left by 9. All are comfortably off & I hope will have a good trip. They have 10 days rations. Spent the morning making a map of the vicinity of Camp Harney. I made on last night but it had several serious errors, so I discarded it. I think I've got a nearly perfect one now.

Wrote some in my book, & took a short nap. It was raining in the morning or I would have gone out riding. Clears off before 12, & is pleasant day
