top line cut off though one does not feel it all the time - a weeks march well fits a man for rest - Made last night a tracing of Custers map for Spaulding & have given him clear direction - I can't see how he can fail - unless the country is absolutely impracticable - Mr Davenport hired a man to take in his dispatches to the Herald. He was to start yesterday morning but alas even the Herald sometimes fails - The men went prospecting & did not get back - So old Joe the guide was subsidised to take in his telegrams ahead of time
