deer seen & killed by this party since arriving among the mts are white-tails -- The canon of Frenck Ck is very fine - walls about 1000 ft & accessible only in a very few places. We have been passing constantly today over & by ledges of quartz, but no gold has been found today by us - Some of the quartz looks very favorable but there seems little prospect of good placer or gulch mining - If there is gold in these mountains
