below our camp of last night. I saw some fish in a Beaver dam & hoped they were trout - sent back for my rod & tried - They were chubs - alas?- & I was greatly disappointed - Wagons had a hard day -- The snow & rains of yesterday made the creek bottom almost a bog - & the mules had a dead? pull ever since we left camp. We have benefited somewhat by Custers work, unclear-- finding our ??? in tolerable repair & several side cuttings which saved us work -- Custer passed on
