I believe there are men who believe in No god and men who have but imperfect ideas of god. Yet I do not believe that there is one who will worship a stone. only as the image or representative of the unknown god. [Note in left margin: March 11th sailed.] The Hindoo has three gods, but they are thought to be one (Nearly the same belief as the Christian religion.) that they have different attributes and are equal and always at war. The Christian belief is in the Father Son & Holy-Ghost. The Hindoo is, two Gods and one devil. One is the good god. the other both good & bad sometimes one sometimes the other or in other words half devil half-god. the third is a wicked devil. who is all bad. There were many Armenians here they profess the Christian religion but have many strange ceremonies. There was an Armenian Wedding during our stay. Some of our Mid attended. On the 11th we sailed and after a pleasant passage arrived At Borneo. We filled out an expedition of boats to go up to Sam bap a dutch settlement. about 30 Miles up the river. Borneo is about the 3d isle in size in the world it contains abut 3 [note in margin: March 18th]
