asp. sometimes called "bitter" & sometimes called "white" cottonwood. Better still, from the steep sides of the cliff burst forth numerous streams of beautiful & perfectly pure water. Here we stopped for a half an hour to wait for the wagons. I picked a great variety of flowers all very alpine in their characteristics. There is a slight growth of dwarf juniper & also of mountain ivy, both of which rarely get much below the limit of perpetual snow -
