Tuesday May 3. 1898 cloudy cooler. work for Geo. all day plant potatoes. Wed. 4 cloudy. a.m. hauled manure on to home garden. trimmed trees in garden. burnt brush piles etc. p.m. Geo. plowed our garden. Thurs 5 rainy drizzle all day. a.m. fixed pasture fence at home 10 a.m. Marion & I to Bank. got the $3000. Insurance money p.m. looked over Fathers garden seeds fixed fence. Shelled corn turned Black & Right out in orchard Fro. 6. cold clearing Co. S.S. Conv. at Lorain all day & eve. Saw Mrs. Bacon Mother of Lou & Laura Riding home at night on car we sang War Songs. Sat 7. cold clearing more. I went to Lorain again all day. a.m. Kids burned brush at wood lot Geo. harrowed our garden at home. News came of Dewey's official report of battle in Philippines. 11 Spanish Ships destroyed no U.S. ships disabled. no U.S. men killed p.m. Kids worked at home.
