26th Aug - Marched at 3am. & camp on Laramie River about 30 miles above Fort Laramie, distance 26 miles. Aug 27th Camp on the Chug 22 miles saw the first horse - not connected with the army- that I have seen for more than two years and it was a ranch occupied by one man. Aug 28th Camped on Bear Creek a small stream 3 miles north of Horse Creek. Met Mr Harwood who had for sale many vegetables unknown to us for a long time, distance 25 miles Aug 29th Reached the camp of the 29th 1/2 mile north of Ft D.A. Russell early in the day - distance 27 miles - received an order immediately to proceed by rail to north Platte with my company. intend going day after tomorrow. Met many of the officers who have been away from the Regt. including Genl. Bradley, Col Haywood, Majs Burrows & Freeman, Capt Shirley & Lt Palmer,
