26th Aug - Marched at 3am. & camp on Laramie River about 30 miles above Fort Laramie, distance 26 miles. Aug 27th Camp on the Chug 22 miles saw the first horse - not connected with the army- that I have seen for more than two years and it was a ranch occupied by one man. Aug 28th Camped on Bear Creek a small stream 3 miles north of Horse Creek. Met Mr Harwood who had for sale many vegetables unknown to us for a long time, distance 25 miles Aug 29th Reached the camp of the 29th 1/2 mile north of Ft D.A. Russell
