French Diot I am extremely glad on your account that you have the Society of Mr. Dole. I have formed a very high opinion of him, thought you know I have hardly seen him. You are reading Wayland & listening to somebody's Mr. W's edition of Pres Sheldon's criticisms thereon. Please write tome thereof. I am probably more interested in Wayland than in a most of your Metaphysics.

You enquire of the N.H.C.R.R. Stock is not one to be bought to advantage. Ans. NO.

It is not yet time. Its stock is not yet in the market. It will necessary be low before it is high. The Stock is taken up only in small quantities and little of that paid fully for; except that in the hands of Contractors & they are pledged by Contract not to sell below par for one year. Rail Road Stocks generally are very low. Great Speculations are made in the Fancies. The "Norfolk County R.R. Stock has been played strangely with. The Co. has failed, Stock clear down. An association of "Bulls" among the Brokers have recently made a 'Comer' and run the stock up almost double. Perhaps they will make a great deal, perhaps they will bite their own fingers. Are you acquainted with the technical terms? N.H.C.R.R. probably now owe me some $300.00 If I had money I think if I could get hold of it I should be tempted to invest in Vt. & Mass. R.R. Stock. I received a letter from Eliab yesterday; last night. I do not know as I have any thing special to write more. I want you to write to me again immediately particularly all about your self place circumstances & condition. [upside down] Isaac
