Stop a minute.- Perhaps I have got a Metaphysical idea crawling through my hair. You say that "Perceptions & Conceptions are essentially the same: the latter are but the former taken at second hand" Is not that fundamentally, and at the very root of the whole matter am absolute denial & total overthrow of your whole doctrine of "Original Ideas". There - to my mind it is not plain as Mathematics. It amounts to a demonstration. If conceptions are only old perceptions of course there can be nothing Original. I'll stop here. Politics certainly appear encouraging. The annexation of Texas & Mexico for Slave Territory, the Election of Taylor, and the Southern Caucus etc. has done & are doing great good in answering Antislavery Sentiments throughout the North. The Election of Ex. Gov. Wm. H. Seward to the U.S. Senate from N.Y. is certainly a great triumph, a direct triumph over the J. A. Collier & Fillmore Taylorism. Then think of L.P. Chase of Ohio in the U.S. Senate! A full blooded Liberty part Man! The Next Congress will have not a few men of the right stamp in it. Chas. Allen, Palfrey & Mann of Mass. Wilson & Tuck of N.H. By the way what a speech that Wilson made! People here who have heard him before Juries think he is about the most Eloquent man in the World. It is too bad that Maine should be so represented in Congress. Just to think of that James Wiley! How I should like to boot him. Do you think the last part of Macauley's History will be inferior?

  I have expected to get Down East before this time, May now be out of business & along there in a few weeks, and I may stay right here all Summer.
