Miss Nancy Thomas, only surviving child of the late Mrs. Metcalf is now the Lady of the house. I liked her appearance much. I judged from Appearances that she is to be married to Mr. Joseph Walker, whom you perhaps remember; if not Eliab does. He is now a housewright at Winchester, but was at Uncle Jacob's while I was there. I do love Uncle. Went up on the hill. How small and close together every thing seemed, compared to my childish impressions!

Called at Mr. Newton's & also at Russell Morse's.
 Went over with Cousin Samuel to Mr. W. Goddard's, cousin Esther Williams, she has a very pretty little girl. Visited the burying ground etc. Early fruit. apples & Pears very abundant at Uncle's. Sat. the 11th , walked to Warwick, P.M. with Uncle Jos. to Uncle Williams. Mr. Baldwin, Yale student Lucy William's man, there etc. She is a fine girl.

Aunt Esther there. She looks younger than when at Milo. Aunt Conant looks old. I should have known her, I think, from her resemblance to Mother. Hervey Conant went the 7 with his family, a visit to Barnard, brother Saml. Sabbath, heard the Unitarian Mr. Clark A.M. & P.M. Mr. Kenney Baptist from West Royalston, exchanged with Mr. Hatch.

  Monday Sept. 13th. With Cousin Joseph A.L. just arrived from Boston, came over to Northfield, and here have been ever since, and  - whether I am likely to be, - I am sure I know not. --r
 Tuesday 14th. I called upon Mr. Edwards, Cheif Engineer of Vermont & Mass. R.R. who lives here, and who had previously given, as you may have heard, encouragement that I could have a situation on this road. Well, the Director of this & Fitchburg Road and others, he just had a great meeting.
