The "Barker" of whom you spoke was probably not (Lewis) He is a little lawyer (or doctor) at Stetson, small potatoes, and been crazy at that. If it was a little lame fellow, it was "Mark" If a very long tongued, politician etc. celebrated Abolitionist and Temperance man, it was David, rather a shallow fellow I say. rather smart naturally, but been sick and perhaps insane some, and slightly weakened. If a rough Old farmer, it was Nathaniel. If the best one of the lot, both physically & intellectually a smart, fine fellow, it was my friend "Daniel". I liked him much.

The other brother "Noah" I have hardly seen. He is a regular old rough Woods surveyor, and wears leather trousers come up to his shoulders, and is probably a smart and capable business man. I went to Stetson Pond without "Nat", "Dan," "Mark" etc. in Nat's hay waggon, and saw "Lewis" at Stetson Mills.
Who is Robert Fernald? Where know you him?

Presume you had a fine time at Milo, Wish I had been there $50 per annum Property Settlement, 25 years is at Compound interest $629.167, is it? It seems small does it not. However I think likely it is all right and for the best that it should be settled at some rate, not much matter how. Is the household furniture etc. etc. reckoned in that arrangement? or what & how of it? What does Mother do with the Seine bow. The keeping etc. will not be running behind hand, will it? Is Charles likely to help me to any money anyway? You see, I must have some at some rate, and that in about a fortnight. If there is no other way can you or Eliab contrive some to lend me a spell? Write me.

I hope you, as well as some other folks will write to me again very soon. Aff. I.S. Metcalf
