As regards Charles & Almeda there is certainly danger, almost danger of a real quarrel. Charles, I know is willing to do and to do a good deal to assist Almeda, he has done much. he would be willing to do almost any thing, if she would ever be willing to show or confess an obligation. She is certainly strange about that. I do not believe that she ever did really confess herself under an obligation to any one Now Chas. has certainly done a great deal for her, and he would feel a great deal better towards her, if she did not curiously contrive to get round acknowledging it.
Not to have one's virtues appreciated and acknowledged is perhaps about the hardest of all trials for poor human nature.
Charles I suppose is absolutely established & fixed as to how he will take back that East field & will not do it on no other conditions. Almeda wants him to take it back, and upon other conditions. She never did give up her will they say & does not mean to. Almeda says to frighten him, she will lease it out. Chas, I suppose would rather give up the whole concern and all the other property he has in the world.
