Another reason for my writing again, at this present time, is to request you, when you may have occasion to send letters, papers, packages, whatever, to me, though the mail of Uncle Sam, in other Conveyance, to forbear directing them to Richmond Corner, Richmond Village, or Richmond at all, but to Gardiner, and moreover to the Care of J.S. Mitchell Esq. as by such an arrangement I shall receive them with much greater ease, and expedition, that is every day without any trouble, whereas, from either of the other direction, I might receive them once a week, once a month, or once a no time, just as it might happen to happen, and much trouble at that.
There is one Post Office in Richmond 7 miles from here, and another 4 miles from here, but the communication with either place is very limited, whereas Gardiner, although 6 or 7 miles distant is frequently visited by all, and J.S. Mitchell Esq. my Agent & Employer, and next door neighbor, visits there regularly every day. He owns a farm, and lives here, but is a Merchant at Gardiner, 'Mitchell & Wilson'. goes down every morning and back every night, regularly. I came here in the Stage on Friday 12th. Went to Squire Mitchells, found him a very pleasant sort of a person, especially his wife, a very pretty, and very witty, little woman, quite young, who calls him always J.S. (an odd name, it seemed to me at first) and jokes him, exceedingly.
He has two daughters, by a former wife, who will go to school/ The next day, Sat. He carried me over to Richmond Village 7 ms.
