of this kind every fall for a long time; and they have been extremely fortunate in having good teachers and good schools. Wm. H. Seavey who has taught this school two years, and who sent me here, was extremely popular, very fine fellow, quite talented liked every where. By the way, it is a very great advantage to succeed good and popular teachers: people get in the habit of liking & praising every thing, instead of finding fault with every thing. The people here too found a very striking personal resemblance between me and my friend Seavey, in fact half of them call me Seavey yet. They appear determined to like me, and will in spite of my self. It is just the school for me, if I cannot suit here, I won't any where. No small scholars. All knowing the importance of learning and going to school for that purpose. I have one class in Latin, 3 in French, one of them really knowing about as much & having read more than I have, though my College Education is complete on that head, and I studied quite thoroughly. Class 12 or 15 Smyths Algebra, many of them having already studied it thoroughly, more so than I have, though to be sure I have gone rather further in Math. Classes in Colburns & Baileys Classes of 12 to 20 or more reviewing Smyths & the celebrated Welch's Arithmetic; As good classes in Philosophy & Chemistry, Astronomy & as ever at Foxcroft Academy. Classes in Abercrombie & Upham, thorough ones too, Worcester History, Parkers Exercises etc. Splendid Grammar class, 30 or 40 good grammarians etc. It is a splendid school. you never saw so good so well disposed, or so handsome a school at Foxcroft, for the number. I board 1/2 mile from the school house. 7 of my scholars, coming from distant parts of the town you know, board at Deacon Dressers, where I do more or less at every house in the neighborhood. Worse yet, all like the Master! School is very full. Teacher has right to turn out all over 50 not usually exercised I cant, good scholar, come to learn, behave & study. too great pleasure to have such scholar to drive 'em off. I hear 2 or 3 classes out of school hours, though not expected 6 hours, only 20, per month.
