You have never mentioned Maria Stevens in any of your letters, whether she is at home or not, and how you like her.- cousin Lucy Williams looks very much indeed, or Ardelia did at her age, though hardly so handsome.

       The chief subject of interest at present in Bangor is the Lyceum, which just now occasions much talk. We have had 4 lectures from Mr Giles of Boston, two from Rev. Stan Thing Universalist of Cambridge Port,- two from Rev. Theodore Parker & two from Mr O. A. Bronson- the unitarian, come outer, and as present Roman catholic: Many of them lectures have chosen such subjects as called out their peculiar views, and Mr Parker in a covert manner plainly ridiculed all religion or at least all faith that any thing in particular is necessary to salvation. Mr Bronson came out openly in favor of the church; declared himself a Romanist.

Mr Pomroy last sabbath spoke of the Lyceum in his sermon said he believed it to be us at present conducted, a school of immorality and infidelity and that he was bound to bear testimony against it; worn parents against exposing their children to its influence. Others ministers have borne similar public testimony, and most of the evangelical part of the community think they have done just right but opposed of religion are quite stirred up about it. Dr Jordan, dentist, who married Mrs. Cargill- I do'nt know whether you know him- has addressed a letter to Ms Pomroy through the Mercury; Dr. Pond answered it, and he has addressed another to Mr. Pond. all this is the general topic of conversation,- Mr Walker in his paper, buffed Mr Parker, and disapproves Mr Pomroy's course but he is a decided Arminian and for ought I know will yet be an infidel: I do not have the greatest respect either for his opinions or practice. He has a little son, named Clarkson Wilberforce! I hope my dear brother that you will be the firm consistent Christian- stem the torrent of irreligion and in all circumstance, through Divine grace do your duty-
