DuQuoin Dec. 16 '63 DuQuoin Dec. 16 1863 My Dear I must tell you of the Riot here yesterday. The DuQuoin Mining Journal Office was cleaned out by a party of soldiers. I have been almost anticipating something of the kind ever since I have been here. Government Trains of Soldiers you know are passing here almost every day. Last monthI know a Cavalry Regiment from Indiana talked of it. Yesterday a fine battery of Artillery, 10 cars of horses 6 cars of brass guns & carriages, 4 cars of Baggage & 3 cars of Soldiers, happened to be stretched out here
