we took lots of flour & wheat but they got away with 400 sacks. I guess we will make use of it a while. The people through here are all pour looking they raise cotton & sheep & spin & weave their own clothing live in miserable houses and the men are all pressed in the confederated service if we can believe the women that are left. I don't see how they can get along atall. there is one little farm & house about every 3 or 4 miles all the rest is brush and stones. we saw lots of splendid pine trees back thirty miles or so and chestnuts are tolerable thick in places. I almost forgot to tell you we are well and in good fat order. I hope you are all getting along well
