49 a little after sunrise, -- at noon, and about sun set. 01 From the time the basket was put in the pot by the priests right hand man, the seven counsellors kept near the fire, some of them being constantly watching the pot day & night About noon on this first day, the seven whippers took the seven white goards and dipped some of the water out of the pot and handed to the people each one gave to those of his own clan In this ceremony they used seven goards which they had white washed, but different from the seven with which they filled the pot in the morning, though put on the same bench. The people drank of this, and gave some to their children, and also washed their own, and their childrens breasts with it. During the afternoon each person could take of this drink at pleasure . When the sun was about two hours high, the priests right hand man directed all to repair to the water, and while all stood on the bank he prayed for them, and then ordered them to wash. The men turned a little upstream, and the women and children down, and all waded in, and standing with the face toward the east, plunged entirely under water. Then turning quickly to the west plunged again in the same manner, and then to the east & till they had plunged seven times, God, it is said, directed them to do this, and not to wipe the water from their faces till they had plunged seven times.
