Page 3d I saw Mrs. Parker the other day, she is not expected to live but a short time, she appeared glad to see me. I sent her love to you, said she should not see you again in this world, but hoped to in another. She has been sick for 4 months of a Consumption. Old Mrs. Harlow is well. [upside down]Maybe got a bad cold. Is it not cold As to the article Dress, first Caput, my head is pretty well off, only, it want, a good find Palm Leaf hat before long. Second, my old stock is most worn out, it never was well made, it seems as if two thirds of the hair has come out. I shall want a new one or a handkerchief or something before summer is out Then, my coat, it would have been 10 percent better if I had half the old jacket at first, it is 'lucky' it come before I begun upon the stumps. The old jacket will last all summer to work in, I guess; but my coat is beginning to mean some, besides looking spotted, it begins. A good many of the boys wear cotton (linen) jackets and if one of those old thin coats could be fixed up or any thing else; so as to be decent to wear to school, it would be saving favor to my coat, and much more more comfortable besides, the frock coat is a very decent garment, all only the pockets before ever was, (at least that I ever saw) that had them before. As for pantaloons, it would seem well enough. If I had had some old ones before digging the stumps, (although it would be a bother to change them) but the dirty work is about done. The Gallases haven't stretched any yet as I can see I have more the Drab pants all lime most dirty work, but they look cleanest now [left-hand side] 4 and ? How does this cold weath feel up there. [upside down at top] all the dark colored Clothes are drefful to show dirt.
