aAnna DW. Nov 1 '58 Elyria Nov 1 1858 My Dear Mother
It seems a long time since I have written to you & a much longer time since you have written to me, really I can scarcely remember when I last received a letter from you. not since early in the season I am sure & then only a part of one. I have written two or three letters meantime to you & repeatedly to the other members of the family; Molllie only has I believe written me in the course of the last year. Mother De Witt died while Grace was east. she had been confined to her bed about two months & suffered much without any apparent disease except the general decay & failure of vital power & strength ; she coughed & raised constantly to the last was not very weak being able to be raised up on bed only a few minutes before she ceased to breathe' she said from the first that she should not get up again was willing & ready to go & died at last very easy: I believe I wrote you about her visiting us in my last; she enjoyed that visit much, spoke of it two or three times after she was taken sick a short time after. The Doctor's five sisters ( all, with himself the surviving members of the family with their husbands & some of their children, dined with us on the day of the funeral; Nancy has been failing in health.

Hiram is at college at Schenectady Sem. where George Putman was. Jenny Putman is engaged to Herbert Brooks this was a marked improvement in her the latter part of the time of her stay here. Her influence over Hattie I think was good. Do you recollect the carpet Aunt Nancy bought for her room? red & black We sent it by express to Hattie to furnish her room, three weeks ago Nancy wished us to take it as she would never use it again probably. I do want very much to hear all about all of you. Will you not write me a good long letter soon? Much love to Charles, Albina, the children Almeda & children. The doctor's best regards to all the friends with much love to yourself dear mother. Anna.
