Dear Mother

                               I am admitted to the Bangor City High School. it was not till yesterday that the Committee decided whether I could be admitted. Mr. Abbot Chairman of the Committee told me that all of the committee felt a great sympathy for young men who wished to get and education who were "not wealthy" , and Mr. Wakefield told me that all of them wished to admit me if they could lawfully. I think that they are very pleasant folks at the Me. Worester's. I have been to see "friend" Hatch' and got my hair cut also bought a pair of suspenders, the man called them braces, on Thomas hill: I went up there yesterday, they have got 3 buildings ~ feet long made of rough boards with hole at the ridgepole to let the smoke out the beds are boards, nailed up at the sides [like births in a vessel] filled with Straw. Three or 4 old ? soldiers have arrived today. I met Mr. Pomroy in the street yesterday he did not know me at first, but turned suddenly round and  said "do you know me?" and then "is it Isaac?" so I tould him it was etc. etc. etc. He was very sociable etc.

13th Sun. eve. Went to meeting and S.S. Mr. and Mrs. W. go to "The Church" as they call it Par eminence I spose meaning the Episcopal. The girl goes to the Methodists. Mr. Wakefield and I to Mrs. Pomroy's. This afternoon a company of soldiers came marching right by the meting house Drum fife
