Chicago, Sabbath. Dec. 31st 1854 My Dearest Ettie I believe I must write a letter to you, even though I knew I should leave it behind me in getting to Dunbarton. I do so much want to hear from you & Mayo today. I was very much afraid from what you wrote that Mayo was going to be sick. That was by letters I received a week ago yesterday. I got another a bit of a letter in pencil written the 20th I believe, which came to hand last Wednesday (written to tell one how much money you had received) from which (as you did not mention his being unwell) I judged that Mayo must be in health. I shall very much hope to find a letter from you at Elyria. I cannot tell when I shall get there exactly. I am hoping to get through here tomorrow possibly in season to start in the Night Train East tomorrow night: in which case I would get to Elyria Tuesday night, and possibly to Dunbarton by Saturday night. You must not however be surprised or alarmed if I do not get there for a week longer. There is no knowing what delays I may meet with. I wrote to you last Sabbath from Ducoign. Monday I went up to Centralia. Staid there
