I met Mr Mason at Centralia yesterday morning. He is to be down again on Tuesday 26th, and very possibly I shall get away immediately thereafter. Then may have have to stop a week or so, some days at least in Chicago; and then Mr Mason spoke as if he might wish me to go to "Our folks" in New York City. But you may be sure I shall lose little time getting away to my Ettie. I have got pretty much tired of every thing else. You see by this letter I have got too lazy to even write decently! You see I keep Crosby as a Copyist for me lately, and so hardly try to write sometimes! There, a poor excuse is better than none, I have heard but this is too poor even for that! What shall we do this winter when I do get there? I suppose you do not want to go down to Bangor near as much as I do. I must go there a while; I want to see how Eliab & Samuel are getting along, and try to help them out of their difficulties if possible. Charles had $950. or more of his money when he started. I almost ought to have sent some to them by him; but in fact the "financial crisis" was so great here that I could not very well do so. I had paid
