Mr Bird was there apparently as fat & hearty & good natured as ever. Mrs B. however is quite unwell. Mrs Sprague I suspect is better--at any rate she was out to Meeting, though evidently feeble. Did I tell you that "Polly Ann" lived there this summer. Mr Bird did not preach but Elder Taylor, the Bible Society Agent; and after a tolerable--though rather loud--sermon, (E.T. is I believe a Methodist), upon "letting your light shine before men"", (Especially by giving them Bibles); came the Annual Meeting of the Duquoin Auxiliary Bible Society--election of Officers--same as last year--and a collection which cost this Individual Five dollars. -- By the way I believe I have not yet read my French all of it for today. Last Sunday I had no French Testament at hand Though Aspern? himself loaned me a German one, (but that hardly answered) and also a course of scripture reading in French--but that contained not the lesson for the day I was so busy through the week that I only read one chapter in the whole week towards making up the Sabbath's lack. And this morning I only read one the long 7th Acts. Let us see where am I--Jean a 21 chapters?. June hath 8, July 10--August8--Last Sunday 2 The Lesson for today then is the VIII & IX Acts: Is that right by your Chronology? What time in the day do you read French. I very frequently read one chapter as I lay on my bed before rising in the morning. The other along the P.M. or after church Do you invite Mother & Lucy to visit Dunbarton this fall? I guess they talk of it. I have bought of Rowley Smith & Co. a Bedstead, Mattress Pillows etc of the best. I have found my own bed all summer on a camp cot--but it wouldn't do when the weather becomes cooler; and then I wanted something better to offer my friends. Did I tell you that I might have to go to Chicago a week on the Final Settlement with Rowley Smith & Co? Kisses to D.M. & Love to all especially yourself from yr own Isaac S.
