39 The women then brought the victuals from the room where it was cooked into the house where the people were seated, and put it on benches, and all ate together, the two right hand men with the people. This was just before, or about sunset. The priest still continued alone in the house of sacrifice. But although having put away his skins, cloth, beads &c. he went into the house where the people were and the victuals which had been set aside for him was brought forward, and he ate. On such occasions the priest must not eat till after sunset. About dark the seven musicians commenced and the women danced, as on the night previous, only now no adult person must sleep during the whole night. In the morning all returned to their houses, taking with them the roots they had taken from the table at the creek. They chewed a little of this root now and then, and spirted the juice over them, yet each would endeavour to make his root last till the first spring new moon. P.S. Previous to this feast the town assembled and the priest, two right hand men appointed seven men to hunt, and seven men & strikeout: woman women to fast, as before the green corn feast. citation: Johnson Pridget.
