Elyria Dec. 1854 Monday Dec. 18th Dear Mother Charles came last Sat. about 10 P.M. We had retired but were not asleep were very glad to get up to welcome him. I am glad to see him looking so well in health and spirits his Western trip seems to have been beneficial to him. I should not wonder if his home should look a little cheerless, dreary & cold when he first arrives there; he makes but a short stay only yesterday (Sabbath & to day thinks he must go on tomorrow in order to reach Bangor to stay next Sat & Sunday. But two days is greatly better than none. I write a few words by him because it will reach you sooner than by mail, but have little to say only that we are well & happy, enjoying the
