The Semiannual Conference met with the church in this place on the 20 & 21st of this month & we had a good meeting but there were very few persons from out of town for it was very Cold and very indeed bad travelling no snow & the road, very rough - we've had no sleighing till about the 25th but the Snow comes very plentifully since it snows & blows exceedingly today
Sam'l has had a very hard time before the snow came to get his Hay & stuff into the woods to his men He said it cost him about $40, to get a Ton of Hay from Milo to his Camp & then his Cattle would eat it up in three days. However he says his men are doing well quite as well this year as last. Sam'l is a good fellow good to me I love him almost like an own Son. He stop'd here last Saturday & Sunday Saturday it storm'd & blow'd so he did not go out at all
Eben Gould is "Toteing (Teaming) for him this winter

They are the workingest folks here that I ever did see Mr. Rider in one week went to Conference 5 miles 2 days, & get his timber from the woods hew'd it & made a great long large Sled to use with 3 yoke of Cattle. - bitter cold weather too took care of all his cattle & chores keeps about 30 herd of neat Cattle besides sheep & horses has got 8 yoke of Oxen & steers 5 yoke that are useable - he sells a great deal of wood at the village and to his neighbors for 2 dollars a Cord carries it to them. Jan. 5th I wrote so far a long time ago but was at Mr. Riders where there is not much communications with any where else - had not heard a word from Charles till yesterday - when Sam'l come up on his way to his men in the woods Today I have got home today expect to stay a week or two & then go to Bangor this letter will be very old before you get it. But Albina tells me she has just sent a letter which is a later edition of the news. Mr. Rider is a very laboriously diligent industrious Man & withall ready to every need & work his sons are more like him I suspect in the first than the latter part of the discription I guess they go almost despise any body that does not work hard all the time.

Charlie has got a very bad cold the Master sent him home yesterday he cough'd so bad he stays at home today. Josie has some cold too they are all about at play
