My own Dear Son

I have just reciev'd a letter from you I had one before just the day after I had sent one to you. It seems you had not received it - what is the reason - I will not try to tell you what a good boy I think you are but my eyes will overflow with Gratitude to God that he has given me just such a Son. Thank you for your letter. How I do hope you can Stay a good long while when you come home. Your last visit home was like a very little taste of something good which only makes one long for more - more than if they hadn't tasted.
Hope I shall see your report of survey & I think you must have had a great deal on your hands lately and more than your head full besides I'm afraid tis more than you ought to do. My health is much better than it was in the hot weather & I didn't really know but what I was well then in the time of it but now I know that I feel a good deal stronger than I did then.
you tell about my giving good advice and the benefit of my experiences! Alas! I was never capable of giving good advice (tho' I us'd to try to sometimes - and my experience as far as my own acts are concern'd looks to me now like all Sin and folly - Besides the tables are turn'd now. I have grown old & must look to my children for counsel and advise not they to me
