Maj. Benj. T. Currey
U.S. Agent Council Ground of the Cherokee Nation, Oct: 27,1835
Sir,
In an agreement signed by [Majors] Ridge, Boudinott & others, upon their re-union with the rest of their countrymen for the good of our common rights & interests, they have acknowledged that the unclear belonging to the Cherokee people, ought to be restored. But, it appears that the aforesaid unclear is not in possession of these Gentlemen, and as we have reason to understand that it was seized under your authority, as as, from your letter of Septr 9th, and subsequent circumstances, we infer that it remains subject to your controul: The Committee & Council have instructed me to request that you will name the day when our property will be ready for delivery back again to the nation, at the spot whence it was removed under a military guard in August last. I have the honor to be, Sir, Your obt: hble: servt: J. Ross, P Chief of the Cherokee Nation
