[I******ments] on Communication from [Mm SL] Wood dated Sitra, Alaska November 22nd 1871, to the Secretary of War. - states that in 1868, Major General Davis [Corrig] the then Department of Alaska seized and occupied a [Building] No 51 belonging to him and that the same is still occupied. - The [building] is going to ruin, without an effort to repair it, and he [***s*Wood] is deprived the right of ownership. - By reference to Inventory "D" attached to the protocol of transfer will prove that the [Commifeioners] of transfer recognized this as private property- States that as he purchased the property in good faith, and the [Con'g Gen'l] failed to warn of a danger, and that he claimed the property as belonging to Government; while he knew that the citizens were purchasing houses at the time, and believing that the Government does not desire to strip one of its citizens and render him [homelefs] without cpmens-ation, he therefore encloses a bill for the rent of said house.
