Saturday Feby 23d

   Pleasant but quite cool - oh such changes hot and rainy yesterday - cold and fair today New England itself cant beat this after all they blow about it - went to School this forenoon but did not get ahead much - had a sort of a headache which made me feel stupid - P.M. went to School until 4 o'clock - then to the music store - had a chat with young Lan - to the store - had another with Mr Adams - took tea and sit in the house the rest of the evening - at 9 Oclock took an upward course and retired to bed. but not to Sleep - the cocks were crowing and dogs barking so that we could not go to sleep till after 12 Oclock - Cheney got up and yelled at them which frightened them into quietude - such a lot of dogs as there are in this city - it is a caution to young folks - one cannot go out without seeing from 1 to 20 dogs. - no wonder Sausages are tough and cheap -

Sunday Feby 24th

   Arose at 8 Oclock - after breakfast went to the Post Office but did [sic] get a letter I begin to think I am not to have one from Home - went to the Episcopal Church - heard a very good sermon - but the ceremony seems to me rather insignificant. however were I accustomed to it I suppose I should like it. - after dinner started out with Mr Dudley thinking to go to Mr Adams' but was so muddy that we backed out - we walked up the Rail Road about a mile just for exercise and passed the remainder of the afternoon in reading talking &c - in the evening went to the Baptist church where I listened to a very good Sermon delivered by the Pastor Mr Johnson - also witnessed the ceremony of Baptism - the subject was a young lady who took the plunge with all the symptom of good faith - after this was over went home and retired
