I received your kind letter of the 17th on Friday evening containing a photograph of mother, a short note from her, and the general news from you. And this is the first opportunity I have had to answer it. I suppose before this you have been favored with a visit from Fred Gregory one of the discharged members of our battery, who promised me he would visit mother for me, and deliver a letter which I sent by him. Ex Lieut Baxter left for Chicago this (Sabbath) morning at 11 o'clock being completely worn out just 2 weeks after his brother. I suppose Orderly Sergeant Stevens will be appointed in his stead.
