In his first lecture he told what Christianity is, in the second,he went over the whole ground of Transcendeltalism quoted German writers, and its great champions in this country R.W. Emerson & Theo. Parker, showed them by their own writings to be infidels: he quoted this from Parker's book, The Bible contains numerous contradictions, poems pretending to be histories, prophecies that never have nor can be fulfilled, stories of miracles that could not have been true, amatory songs, and finally that the God of the Bible is a cruel implacable being not to be trusted! I wish cousin Joseph could see just what he is admiring in Mr Parker. Mr Pomroy reviewed Mr Parker's lecture before the the Lyceum, in which he manifestly cast contempt upon all religion or rather all faith in anything particular or necessary to salvation, said the press had been recreant to duty in not condemning such sentiment, said he "if I should go before the Lyceum and speak against Universalism as I solemnly believe, would nothing be said? The third lecture was upon the infidelity of Fouvievism. Mesmerism, and a licentious press, in which the editors here got some rubs: the last was a comparison of infidelity with Christianity and a sort of application of the whole. I think they will do much goo though perhaps the present effects may not be visible; Mr. Pomroy has shown himself nobly independent and self sacrificing in doing it; though doubtless it will raise him bitter enemies it has been said that he never has stood higher than now in the estimation of this community. Bishop Burgess is to deliver the next lecture next tuesday evening.
